Why Art for Veterans?
The visual arts have long been a format for creative expression, often providing emotional healing, strength, and a sense of purpose. Scott Beaty, a 20-year Navy Submarine Veteran and the Founder of Visions for Vets, discovered a way to provide Veteran assistance through teaching and creating art and building strong Veteran camaraderie. Once V4V began, he witnessed his Veteran art students find release from their burdens, express themselves emotionally through creativity, and realize freedom from society’s label of being “disabled.”
VISIONS FOR VETS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization focused on enriching and preserving the lives of Military Veterans, empowering those who served by utilizing the powers of the visual arts. Our aim is to build bridges to incorporate Veterans back into the community and offer avenues of employment, all in a fun, positive, safe, and encouraging environment.
Vision for Vets Art School
Everything is free to our Veteran Members. We are not a crafts workshop; we are an Art School teaching art skills from beginner to college levels, utilizing professional Artists and College Art Graduates as instructors. Visions for Vets never claims to be a form of therapy but fully recognizes the documented benefits and healing that creating art provides both physically and emotionally in a peer group environment. Our Veteran Artists are extremely talented and have come to love and depend on our program for many reasons; read what they have to say in their own words.
Visions for Vets is an exclusive Veterans’ organization with limited non-service volunteers (maximum 3 at a time). Due to the sensitivity of many of our Veterans, we must maintain a limited non-veteran-to-veteran proportion to ensure the security and comfort of our Veteran Peer Groups.
Our Mess Guest Program welcomes outside organizations, restaurants, and civilians to provide meals for our workshops. Sharing a meal is an important emotional activity and is often the only meal our Veteran students have during the week. “To break bread together builds relationships, buries anger, and provokes laughter.” Please contact Scott if you’re interested in offering a meal.
